Bandipur - Kabini
 
     
 

Bandipur National Park is one of India’s best known protected area and is an important Project Tigerreserve. It is located in the Chamarajanagar district of southernKarnataka in South India.

The park stretches over 874 square kilometers (337 sq mi), protecting the wildlife of Karnataka. Together with the adjoining Nagarhole National Park(643 km2 (248 sq mi)), Mudumalai National Park (320 km2 (120 sq mi)) and Wynad Wildlife Sanctuary(344 km2 (133 sq mi)), it forms the largest protected area in Southern India, totaling 2,183 km2 (843 sq mi).

It is notable as the home to around seventy Bengal Tigers and over three thousand Indian Elephants. Bandipur is part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. TheWestern Ghats, Nilgiri Sub-Cluster (6,000+ km²), including all of Bandipur National Park, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 1 * (We take early morning flight from Mumbai to reach Bengaluru by 9 AM. People who choose to come by train need to board it on the previous evening/night from Mumbai to reach Bangalore late night on or early morning on the next day. Train journey is approx. 24 hours.)
  * Arrive at Bangalore by 9 am. Transfer to Mysore. Distance from Bangalore to Mysore will be covered in approx. 3.5 to 4 hours.
  * On the way, before Mysore, we will visit Ranganthittu Bird Sanctuary.
  * Ranganathittu is about 18km form Mysore and is home to some of the most exotic birds. It is a group of small islands in the Cauvery River.
  * Spend rest of the time till evening in sanctuary and then proceed to hotel in Mysore. Overnight stay at Mysore.

 

Day 2 * Leave after breakfast for Bandipur. It will be approx. 1.5 hours drive.
  * Reach Bandipur by 11 A.M. Check-in in Bandipur Safari Lodge.
  * After lunch we shall leave for jungle safari in an open jeep at around 2 PM.
  * Bandipur also has a sizable number of Tigers. Other natural inhabitants of this lovely forest are gaur (a type of bull), sambhar, chital, mouse deer, four-horned antelope, wild dogs, wild boar, jackal, sloth bear, panther, malabar squirrel, porcupines and the black-knapped hare. Birds like jungle fowl and green pigeon are also found here.
  * Will be back by 5:30 PM. Overnight stay at the Lodge.

 

Day 3 * Early morning we will leave for guided nature walk with experts. It will be almost 1.5 to 2 hours of Nature walk which will refresh you for the rest of the day.
  * Return to resort for Break-fast.
  * After lunch we will do a guided city tour of Mysore OR again a guided nature walk as per your wish.
  * Return for Dinner. Overnight at resort.

 

 

 

Day 4 *Early morning we will leave for jungle safari by jeep. This will be our last safari in Bandipur National park.
  * After returning and having breakfast we will leave for Kabini. Reach Kabini by Lunch.
  * Check in at Kabini River Lodge.
  * After lunch we will leave for jungle safari in Kabini / Nagarahole National park in open jeep.
  * Nagarahole/Kabini National Park is one of the last remaining and best protected habitats for endangered species like the Elephant and the Tiger.Set up as a wildlife sanctuary in 1955 and a national park in 1988, it was declared a tiger reserve in 1999.
  * Return to resort in the evening. Dinner and overnight at Resort.

 

Day 5 * Early morning we will leave for jungle safari in a boat. This will be a unique experience to see the jungle sitting in boat.
  * Return for Breakfast. After breakfast refresh and relax.
  * After lunch we will leave for jungle safari again in boat. This time we will experience the jungle during evening from boat.
  * Apart from the tigers, leopards and wild dogs are the two other predators found in the wildlife sanctuary. Elephants and bison are other prime attractions. One can also spot animal species like jackals, striped hyena, sloth bears, mouse deer, black naped hare, etc. Russell’s viper, vine snake, Indian rock python, common krait, etc. are some of the common reptile species found in the park.
  * Return by evening. Dinner and overnight at Resort.

 

Day 6 * Early morning we will leave for jungle safari in open jeep. This will be our last safari on the tour.
  * Nagarahole is also an have for several varieties of birds. Over 270 varieties of avian species can be spotted in the park. The critically endangered oriental white-backed vulture is a key attraction. Lesser adjutant, Nilgiri wood-pigeon, greater spotted eagle, Indian peafowl, yellow legged green pigeon, painted bush quail, etc. are some of the other bird species that can be seen in the park.
  * Return for Breakfast. After breakfast we will leave for Bengaluru for our return journey.
  * Reach Bengaluru by evening to take the return flight to Mumbai.

 

Costing and other details

Tour cost: Rs. 28,000/- per person + Rail or Airfare.(Minimum for 6 People on twin sharing basis)

Airfare : As of now, return airfare will cost around Rs. 5200/- which will keep on varying with the time.

Railfare : Generally booked 60 days in advance. If not available at the time of booking then tatkal tickets needs to be booked which will incur additional cost. The exact fare will be known at the time of booking.

- 5 nights 6 days stay in Jungle lodges.

- All meals (Morning Tea, Breakfast, Lunch, Evening Tea, Dinner)

- 4 jungle safaris in Bandipur, 2 Jungle Safaries & 2 Boat safaries in Kabini (Max 6 people in one gypsy).

- Mineral water (2 bottles per day per person)

- Pick and Drop from Bangalore. The Car will remain with you for entire period.

 

Tour Cost Does not Include :

Rail or Airfare – Mumbai to Nagpur and back
Any personal expense such as Laundry, any extra meals not mentioned above, liquor,personal medical expenses, phone etc.

- Keep the forest & surrounding area clean.

- Leaving your garbage anywhere in the forest is not allowed.

- Smoking and Alcohol in the forest is not allowed.

- Your seat will be confirmed only after full payment for the tour.

- Gypsy Safari Bookings run 30 days in advance.

 

Things to carry :

- Woollen clothing(for winter season), Summer clothing (for summer season)

- Comfortable sports shoes with a decent grip

- Personal clothing, Sunscreen lotion, Cap, Scarf, Torch (Mandatory)

- A camera.. or else you will miss the show

- Plastic bags (for wet things) and a water bottle

- Personal Medical kit, Do not carry any valuables or jewellery.
