Pench Tiger Reserve

Pench National park, nestling in the lower southern reaches of the satpuda hills is named after Pench river, meandering through the park from north to south. It is located on the southern boundary of Madhya Pradesh, bordering Maharashtra, in the districts of Seoni and Chhindwara.Pench National Park, comprising of 758 SqKm, out of which a core area of 299 sq km of Indira Priyadarshini Pench National Park and the Mowgli Pench Sanctuary and remaining 464 sq km of Pench national park is the buffer area.

The area of the present tiger reserve has a glorious history. A description of its natural wealth and richness occurs in Ain-i-Akbari. Pench Tiger Reserve and its neighbourhood is the original setting of Rudyard Kipling's most famous work, The Jungle Book.

The undulating topography supports a mosaic of vegetation ranging from moist, sheltered valleys to open, dry deciduous forest. Over 1200 species of plants have been recorded from the area including several rare and endangered plants as well as plants of ethno-botanical importance.

The area has always been rich in wildlife. It is dominated by fairly open canopy, mixed forests with considerable shrub cover and open grassy patches. The high habitat heterogeneity favours high population of Chital and Sambar. Pench tiger reserve has highest density of herbivores in India (90.3 animals per sq km).

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 * We take early morning flight from Mumbai to reach Nagpur by 8 AM. People who choose to come by train need to take Sevagram Express at Dadar on earlier day at 15:10 to reach Nagpur by 7:00 am.
  *Transfer to the Resort at Pench. It will be approx. 2 hours drive from Nagpur.
  * Have lunch & relax at resort.
  * After lunch, jungle safari to Pench Tiger Reserve and experience the majestic wildlife.
  * In Pench, Cheetal, Sambar, nilgai are commonly seen grazing on the open sites on roadsides and banks of river & reservoir. Jackals can be seen in search of food anywhere in the Park. Packs up to 15 of wild dog can be seen near Chhedia, Jamtara, Bodanala and Pyorthadi areas of the Reserve.
  * Dinner and Overnight stay at the resort.

 

Day 2 * Leave early morning for jungle safari.
  * Return to resort for breakfast. Some free time for relaxation.
  * After Lunch, again we shall leave for a jungle safari at around 2:00 pm.
  * Pench boasts of, more than 210 species of birds that include several migratory ones also. Commonly seen are Peafowl, Red jungle fowl, Crow pheasant, Crimson breasted barbet, Redvented bulbul, Racket tailed drongo, Magpie robin and lesser whistling teal.
  * Overnight stay at the forest resort.

 

 

Day 3 * Post morning safari and breakfast, leave for Nagpur. Catch the flight or train back to Mumbai.
  *As a prey concentration is high along the Pench River, tiger usually inhabits frequents this belt. Leopard though generally operates in the peripheral areas but are occasionally seen in the deep forest also. Jungle cats are commonly seen. Leopard cats, small Indian civets and palm civets are common but seen rarely.

 

 

 

Day 4 * Arrive at Mumbai by Afternoon. Tour concludes with some wild memories.

Tour cost: - per person + Rail or Airfare.(Minimum for 6 People on twin sharing basis)

Any additional person in the same room will cost extra on per day basis. Only one additional person per room is allowed.

Airfare : As of now, return airfare will cost around Rs. 5200/- which will keep on varying with the time.

Railfare : Generally booked 60 days in advance. If not available at the time of booking then tatkal tickets needs to be booked which will incur additional cost. The exact fare will be known at the time of booking.

Tour Cost Includes :

- 2 nights 3 days stay in Air conditioned room.

- All meals (Morning Tea, Breakfast, Lunch, Evening Tea, Dinner)

- 4 jungle safaris Max 6 people in one gypsy.

- Mineral water (2 bottles per day per person)

- Pick and Drop from Nagpur

 

Tour Cost Does not Include :

Rail or Airfare – Mumbai to Nagpur and back
Any personal expense such as Laundry, any extra meals not mentioned above, liquor,personal medical expenses, phone etc.

 

Please Note :

- Keep the forest & surrounding area clean.

- Leaving your garbage anywhere in the forest is not allowed.

- Smoking and Alcohol in the forest is not allowed.

- Your seat will be confirmed only after full payment for the tour.

- Gypsy Safari Bookings run 30 days in advance.

 

Things to carry :

- Woollen clothing(for winter season), Summer clothing (for summer season)

- Comfortable sports shoes with a decent grip

- Personal clothing, Sunscreen lotion, Cap, Scarf, Torch (Mandatory)

- A camera.. or else you will miss the show

- Plastic bags (for wet things) and a water bottle

- Personal Medical kit, Do not carry any valuables or jewellery.

- Personal Identification.(Compulsory)
